How do I update the Slingbox Software (firmware) on my Slingbox?
Your Slingbox is normally updated automatically when it's on and connected to the Internet. But there are some instances when you may need to manually update it. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to do that.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This does not apply to the Slingbox 350 or the Slingbox 500, which update themselves automatically.
There is software on your Slingbox that controls the encoding of the video and how it is streamed to you over the Internet. As our technology and SlingPlayers improve, we often need to update that software. You will see this software referred to in our documentation as Slingbox Software or Firmware.
To manually update your Slingbox Software, you will need to access your Slingbox from a supported web browser (see link below for supported browsers) on a computer - you cannot update your Slingbox directly from any of the mobile versions of SlingPlayer.
Also note that it's best to be at home when updating your Slingbox Software, just in case you need to physically access your Slingbox.
How to update your Slingbox Software
Visit Slingbox Setup from your computer.
Log in to your Sling Account and connect to your Slingbox.
If your Slingbox Software is out of date, you will see a button on the right side of the window that says Check for Updates. Click the button.
Wait while the Slingbox gets the update.
Once the update process completes, you can try that new version of the player again. And start watching your TV anywhere!
A note about older desktop versions of SlingPlayer
You can no longer use an older desktop version of SlingPlayer, like SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows or SlingPlayer for Mac, to update your Slingbox Software to the latest version. Those applications are no longer being developed and are not up-to-date.
